Surgical Theatre & Day Surgery supports approved procedures that can be performed safely within the hospital’s available clinical, anaesthetic, theatre and post-operative capacity.
Day surgery allows selected patients to have planned procedures and return home the same day where clinically appropriate.
Every procedure requires clinical assessment, informed consent, anaesthetic review where needed, infection prevention, surgical safety checklist, sterile equipment and recovery monitoring.
Patients may need laboratory tests, imaging, fasting instructions, medication advice, HMO authorisation and a responsible adult to support discharge.
Patients should receive discharge instructions, warning signs, medication guidance and follow-up appointment details.
Only approved procedures should be published when theatre readiness, staffing, equipment and governance have been confirmed.
